Initial Brainstorming and Research

Before diving into the design process, the team conducted extensive research to understand the target audience and their preferences. They analyzed data from existing games and attractions at California Adventure Park, as well as other theme parks around the world.

"We learned that visitors are looking for immersive experiences that combine thrill and fun," said Lee. "We wanted Pond of Plinko to be a game-changer in terms of innovation and interactivity."

The team brainstormed ideas that would blend physical and digital elements, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in theme park design. Ideas ranged from interactive water features to projection mapping on large-scale sculptures.

Design Development

With a clear direction established, the design process entered its next phase: developing concept art and 3D models. The team consisted of experts from various disciplines – architects, engineers, artists, and experience designers.

"We worked closely together to create an immersive environment that transports visitors into a world of Plinko," said Rachel Kim, Senior Concept Artist on the project. "The goal was to create an atmosphere that’s both playful and mesmerizing."

Concept art showcased the installation’s core elements: a large, glowing pond surrounded by interactive screens and projection mapping effects. Visitors would be able to control the gameplay using hand gestures and voice commands.

Prototyping and Testing
